Background
I’ve been involved in art since I was very young. For as long as I can remember, I’ve been creating something. I’m lucky to say that my grandmother and father’s creative sides were passed down to me.
For the most part, I’m a self taught artist, however I had some schooling at UW Green Bay,
taking a strong interest in art. In the past few years, I’ve learned a bit about using watercolor
and I just love it! I love the unpredictability of it, never quite knowing how it will look when
it dries, or what special effect you might get at the time.
In the past, I’ve painted with acrylic on numerous surfaces, and have done some large-scale, realistic wildlife sign painting in enamel.
Gourding has also been a self-taught art adventure. It is a unique art form that allows me to work in sculpture in addition to painting. I believe just about any theme can be incorporated into gourd art.
Most recently, I've illustrated a children's book called The Hungriest Chickadee, and I'm looking forward to illustrating more if the opportunity arises.
Currently
I’m a member of the Rusk Area Arts Alliance and the Wisconsin Gourd Society, and currently employed as a creative artist at Artisans, Inc. in Glen Flora, WI.
In my spare time, I’ve been helping out with children’s art events at the Toad House, and very busy trying to expose my 2 year old daughter to art...so far she loves it!
Statement
Living in northern Wisconsin, I'm inspired by nature quite often, since I am literally surrounded by it. I am also an avid gardener, always trying to plant flowers for painting later. As you can see, I’ve always been fascinated with birds, they are the subject matter I feel closest to.
There is nothing more exciting and memorable than experiencing nature on a personal level. I hope to capture the feeling and mood of each of my experiences in my paintings and gourds, so that in some way, the viewer can experience it too. Thank you for spending some time in my site!
